Pressrelease 16/05/03 Miss Universum – Selfelected Miss Universum left her career as a background singer of the band Doktor Kosmos after the recording of their latest album ”Reportage!”. She had had enough of testosteron-stuffed communist rock and figured that the other members of the band had become a bit stuck-up. Also, she wanted to front, which she does now on her solo album ”Selfelected”. This time the Doktor Kosmos-members Uje Brandelius and Henrik Svensson had to back her up instead of the other way around. She prepared herself for her first solo album through stage theatre and the visual arts. For several years now, Miss Universum has been performing at different galleries, museums, theatres and festivals with her mixture of music, stand-up, poetry, spoken word, ballet and feminist agitation. In 2002 she released an EP with three spoken songs + video clips in Swedish. ”On the Underground” was an immediate underground hit. ”Selfelected” is more of a synth-punk album. Miss Universum wrote the lyrics in English because she thinks she has now outgrown Sweden. Miss Universum is an artist and it is difficult for her to let someone else do anything for her. Since she is a control freak she made the cover of the album and the promotion material all by herself. But she’s no good at writing music so Uje Brandelius got the permission to do that. Miss Universum says: Honour or die!
